We would like to encourage the entire Science Academy community to have a conversation with their child and consider the following as preparation in case of an emergency that affects the school:
Please make sure your child:
- Has both parent cell phone numbers memorized, as well as a third contact number, in the event neither parent can be reached;
- Has their home address memorized. In the past, police officers were unable to take students home during an emergency as the student did not know their address;
- Has a general idea of parents’ work/home schedule(s) so they have an idea of where parent(s) may be contacted;
- Knows who the emergency contacts are on the Emergency card on file at school;
Parents, please make sure you:
- Have completed an Emergency card with up-to-date information on file at the school;
- Have a “Parent/Family Emergency Pool” in place – this is a pool of 2 or 3 people can contact, and who can contact you, for information in the event of an extended emergency and/or blackout;
- Have an alternative place for your child to go to from school during an emergency in case you are detained or have been incapacitated;
- Have established emergency procedures for the home and reviewed them with your child in the event they arrive home before you
- Have some form of portable emergency power for your phone at home in the event of a power outage.
